Russian/Chinese language basics mini-course
Someone who has knowledge of Russian or Chinese could arrange a language course complete with lectures and assignments for the people in the train. Knowing some practical phrases or words in Chinese wouldn't hurt in Shanghai :)

Documentary film of the journey; to be able to share the adventure with others afterwards.
We could (should!) document the journey and all its workshops and activities through film, sound recording, animation, writing, etc. We can share the results in Shanghai and Finland, and maybe even use it to garner support for future trips!

Let's have an own sauna with us!
One example of a small and cool sauna by aalto students can be found from the basement of Design Factory. We are going to manufacture the version 2.0 during this spring. Should we take it with us in case that Shangai don't have enough saunas for 100 Finns? :)

Put up a start-up or company!
Let's create a workshop where every entrepreneurially interested participants can gather. Let's see what skills and talents people have and see if we can put up a company and already start to work on it!

We take 100 bikes with us
When and where our train stops, we will want to see the surroundings quickly, easily and for free!!
Even if we stop for just one hour, we will go much further with a bike, and it will be MORE FUN (not to mention that our legs will be begging for some exercise).
If we make friends along the way, people who help us somehow, we can give them one bicycle as a present.
They will also be really useful to move around the expo (well, I don´t know if you can take a bike inside the Expo, but I have…

sports! gymnastics, breakdance, acrobatics...
One week without any sports? no way! Train trip is a great possibility to learn new things. Standing on hands, breakdance moves, standing on other person's shoulders... Anything that can be done in a small place as a train car.

Sitsit around clock...
or at least at one evening. This could be a good opportunity to merge Teekkari, HSE and Design-party culture...

Let's stop to small villages in Siberia!
There are many small villages on route of transsiberian railways. We should stop at interesting sights and cities to get to know places we couldn't ever stop at or see in our lifes.
We could even go to see places that transsiberian railways dont stop itself! First tourists ever in some cities and landscapes!

We need vegetarian food option in train! (Kipsari anyone?)
In siberia and china it may be hard to get vegetarian food. if there is no vegetarian food, the vegetarians can't join the trip :/...
The idea of taking train through asia is very ecological! we should also serve excellent russian, east-asian and chinese vegetarian food on train, ask for funding from aalto and promote it as Aalto Eco Responsibility demonstration!
Maybe we could also ask for receipes of very tasty kipsari food and practice how to cook it on train! Vegetarian food tastes bad only when it is prepared bad!

An idea car or section for brainstorming, free association and open innovation
Lots of time far away from everyday life, interesting people to talk with, everchanging Siberian landscapes around... a good environment for new ideas and innovations. Let's collaborate and have a section for continuous brainstorming. It could simply have loads of post-its and you could write all your new ideas and thoughts on those and stick them on the wall. Then be inspired by the ideas written by the others and write new ones. Move and organize the post-its to form something bigger than the single writers first thought.
This could be related to the other ideas presented here, like the…

Cooking classes
The train will be travelling through two of the most prominent culinary regions in the world, China and Russia. So why not arrange cooking classes? We could perhaps even stop and buy groceries at a local food market. How cool would that be? Making dim sums and borsch out of authentic materials.

Let's have a board games tournament (Kimble, Monopoly, Ticket to Ride)
What could be better than spending a week playing Kimble? Let's arrange our own Aalto train championships in board games. People would be split up in interdisciplinary teams to get to know each other. I took a quick check on Google, nobody hasn't yet had a world cup in Muumipeli for instance, let's be the first!

Original research
When a 100 or so bright young students go on a journey together, one should expect something more than just generic travel documentation. Photos, diaries and such are of course important and valuable, but this kind of an adventure offers great possibilities for something even greater – in the true sprit of an expedition.
I propose miniature research projects for all participants. See the special environement of the train from the angle of your expertise – or perhaps try doing research in someone else's field? In “tongue-in-cheek” -style or maybe something more profound – the choice is yours.
